It’s Tuesday again which means it’s time for another Top Ten Tueday post! Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by Jana (@that artsy reader girl) I try to join as often as I can. This week’s topic is whatever you choose and I decided to kill two bird with one stone with participating in both this week’s TTT and writing about popular and hyped ya-books I haven’t read yet (a blog post idea I had for a while now). After reading this post you’ll find out all the top 5 very hyped ya-books I haven’t read yet (and probably never will??) and to be honest, I already feel guilty about it considering not only how popular these books are but also how well-loved.

1. Throne of Glass by Sarah J. Maas

Let’s start right away with a ya book series I have seen the most mixed reviews on; Throne of Glass! I have to confess that I feel very uncultured when talking about it because the only things I know about this series is that it’s all about a female main character who is an assassin and has a name I don’t know how to pronounce but we’re already used to that, aren’t we?. Somehow I have not only not read ToG but I also decided to not add this one to my want-to-read simply because I have no interest in reading a book series as long as this one (I belive there are seven books out…?). Furthermore, I have also heard about a lot of disappointed readers who are not happy with how things went with certain characters and plotwise. That kinda scared me off. For now, I think I’ll stick with the author’s ACOTAR series and see what Sarah J. Maas plans for the next books…

2. Thirteen Reasons Why by Jay Asher

No, I have not seen the Netflix adaption of Thirteen Reasons Why. I have only seen the very big amount of reviews of people warning others to not read this book because of the way of how suicide is presented in this one. But I have also seen people praising this book for how fast-paced and gripping it is. And, after the tv show came out everyone was talking about this book. Am I ever going to read it anyways just to see what this is all about for myself? To be honest, I have no such plans at the moment.

3. City of Bones by Cassandra Clare

Okay, okay! Please listen to me before you decide that I am absolutely crazy! The reason I have not read City of Bones and the whole TMI series is because in middle school I was binge-reading other books, mostly middle grade ones such as the Warrior Cats series by Erin Hunter, the Precious Stone trilogy by Kerstin Gier and of course Harry Potter. As for paranormal ya books I read different ones and never got to the point where I could have picked up this well-loved series. But there is still hope for City of Bones as I have read TDI earlier this year. I really enjoyed this “prequel” series to TMI and out of this list City of Bones is definitely the book with the highest chance of being read by me. So, who knows? Maybe I just end up doing a TMI marathon to catch up on that.

4. Shatter Me by Tahereh Mafi

Just like the Throne of Glass series, this series is another one I do not know anything about other than there are quite a few books out now including novellas (and a lot of fanart). This is not on my want-to-read list neither and I do not intend to catch up on it mainly because I am not the biggest ya-dystopian fan. However, I am interested in reading Tahereh Mafi’s other books such as A Very Large Expanse of Sea since I have only read great things about it.

5. Five Feet Apart by Rachael Lippincott

And, finally, there are several very popular ya-contemporaries which I haven’t read yet. Why? I think it’s probably because I am currently reading more fantasy and classics but I want to check out some contemporary novels too. Is Five Feet Apart one of them? It could be but to be honest, the synopsis of this one sounds a bit too The Fault in Ours Stars -like to me but of course, I can’t know for sure until I read it. I have also seen a lot of praise for the movie adaption so that could be a motivation for me too.

    👀👀 honestly, even though cassandra clare’s books are some of my faves, i can understand how intimidating the idea of starting to read all the series is. if i didn’t start reading TMI when it first came out, i think i would hesitate if i had to start now too. the same for TOG, i’m stuck at heir of fire, though i have plans to read queen of shadows in august. fingers crossed that i actually do it.

    one book i’m determined to never read is thirteen reasons why. mainly because of the tv show. i’ve watched five feet apart, and not going to lie, i cried. but i’m not going to read the book.

  4. There are so many books I wanted to read when I just started watching booktube, that I feel kinda “meh” about now 😀

    Although! Throne of Glass is my favorite SJM series, I wasn’t a bit fan of ACOTAR, but Throne of Glass was a lot of fun.

    I don’t think I’ll be reading Shatter Me series either… I own the first book, but kinda not feeling it anymore. Lol

  5. Lovely post!! I hope you do end up reading TMI one day, once you start, you won’t be able to stop!! (: I felt the same way about ToG but ended up adoring all of the books, but everyone is so different they’re definitely not everyone’s cup of tea!! ❤️

LOVED THIS POST. i agree with you on a lot of your picks. i really don’t know the difference between A THRONE OF GLASS and SJM’s other series so i’m even more uncultured than you on that. 13RW was actually better than the show… but it is still not great so personally i don’t think you’re missing out on much. TMI is by far the worst of CC’s series but I did enjoy it when I read it years back, so… if you ever read it it could be good! and i also have not read shatter me and don’t know a single thing about it HAHAH. i also have totally felt the same way about FIVE FEET APART. i did watch the movie though and it wasn’t bad! great post ♥

I’ve literally been saying I’m going to read Throne of Glass since I joined the book community over two years ago… I think in my heart I’ve accepted that it’s probably not going to happen lol I just have commitment issues okay there are a lot of pages in that series. I also have absolutely no plans to read 13 reasons why nope no thank you I’m not about that glorification of suicide no thanks nope

  9. I have read 13 Reasons Why and City of Bones, and Throne of Glass is on my tbr. But it IS so hard to pick up books years after the hype has died down. 🙂

    1. I also tend to have high expectations whenever I read a hyped books which is normal – I guess. 😀 Plus, I am also not good at keeping up with hyped books + new releases so I often end up reading them after some time has passed, hehe.

    I don’t plan on reading TOG, TMI, Thirteen Reasons Why or 5 Feet Apart, either. These books just… don’t appeal to me, in any way. I actually read City of Bones like, AGES ago, but… didn’t feel compelled to go on, and now it’s too late and I don’t feel like getting into such a big series. commitment 😂😂

  13. Of all of these the only ones I haven’t read are Thirteen Reasons and Five Feet Apart! That’s probably because when I first discovered the online book world, I made it my mission to read as many popular YA titles as I could haha. I haven’t caught up with CC’s shadowhunter books so if I was still pretty new to them it would definitely be very overwhelming because there are just SO MANY. And don’t even mention all the novella bind-ups other small spin-off books. I’ll probably never get to those at this point. I feel like I’ve read a lot of the older popular YA books so as new series come out and get pretty hyped, I’m a bit skeptical since it typically reminds me of something I’ve already read!

    1. Thank you for your comment, Deja! 😊 When I was first joined the bookish community my goal was to read all the hyped new releases which didn’t leave any time for reading “older” releases. Whenever a new hyped book comes out that sounds like my cup of tea (happens a lot recently 😂) I get tempted to read it. I guess it’s the same here. 🙈

I read Throne of Glass years ago but haven’t continue the series ever since so I guess… it was okay?? 😅 I didn’t even remember anything so I need to reread it if I ever want to continue 🙈 I’ve never read any of Katie West or Alice Oseman’s books, I have them on my TBR though as they sound like something I would genuinely enjoy! Maybe one day when the contemporary mood strikes…

    1. I’ve also never read Katie West’s books nor Jenny Han’s (oops!) although I have seen the first To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before movie (the hype was strong in that one). 😅 Maybe I’ll catch up on that when I do a contemporary marathon.

  17. Brilliant post! I just read city of bones and wasn’t the biggest fan of it, although I did think I’d love it after all the hype everywhere. I don’t know why it didn’t click, Clary can definitely be a little immature (/annoying…) and the plots were a bit predictable. Worth a try though… if not to laugh at haha.
